The fertility potential of the ageing ovaries.
As we have all noticed, the modern current trend among women is to postpone reproduction. There are many reasons for this- female emancipation, widely available contraception, social, financial and work opportunities and pressures, to name but a few. It is not unusual these days, in fact it has somehow become the norm, for women not to think of pregnancy before the age of 30. Statistics show that the mean age of first-time mothers in developed countries has increased. In the US 9% of first births were to women over 35 years of age, which is a 23 percent increase from year 2000. Unfortunately though, because the ability to conceive is strongly influenced by a woman’s age, many women who delay childbearing may face infertility by the time they feel ready for a baby….
